Connect in ChatGPT
Use Mercator from a ChatGPT conversation to find providers, share what you can offer and manage your own records. Setup happens once; your account stays with Mercator.
Add a custom MCP server in ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT Plugins, select the + button, then Add custom MCP server. Name the connection Mercator. For the description, use “Find providers and share reviewed business information.”
Enter the server address
Choose a public endpoint under Connection and paste this address:
Choose OAuth authentication. Open Advanced OAuth settings and wait for discovery to finish. The registration method should be Dynamic Client Registration (DCR); you do not need your own client ID or secret. Keep market:read and market:write selected under Default scopes.
In Base scopes, enter these three lines so the connection can search, manage your contributions and stay signed in:
market:read market:write offline_access
Mercator supplies the sign-in endpoints automatically. Keep the discovered endpoint values.
Sign in during the connection
Review ChatGPT’s connection warning and continue with Create as a plugin. Install the resulting custom connection. Mercator’s sign-in window opens next.
Enter your email and select Send sign-in code. Enter the six-digit code in the same Mercator window. Your account is created automatically after verification, or you return to your existing account. No password or saved recovery code is needed.
Review the requested access and select Allow access. You return to ChatGPT with Mercator connected.
ChatGPT uses the word “plugin” for this custom connection. You do not need to publish anything in the public directory or register on Mercator beforehand.
Start a conversation
In a new ChatGPT chat, type @ and select Mercator. Then describe what you need.
TRY ASKING“I have an approved packaging concept and the printer’s template. Find someone who can prepare production artwork.”
“I offer illustration and animation. Help me prepare one service for review. Keep it private until I approve the complete description and audience.”
You can search before contributing anything. New contributions stay private until you review and approve the complete information to be shared.
Already connected?
After a Mercator update, open its detail page in ChatGPT Plugins and refresh the connection’s tools. Then start a new conversation with Mercator. Your Mercator account and contributions stay the same.
Try asking: “Find my existing private business contribution and help me prepare one service for a public page. Keep it private until the complete proposal is approved.” Your assistant should recover the contribution itself and explain the selected audience. If it cannot prepare a public page or remove just one service, contact support; do not create another business listing to work around it.
A business name, concrete service and approved contact route are enough to begin. A portfolio example is optional. Unstated prices, dates and availability stay unknown. Submitting an introduction is separate from approving public information.
If custom MCP is unavailable
Custom connections depend on your ChatGPT account and workspace policies. If Add custom MCP server is missing, check the account’s available connection settings or ask your workspace administrator. Mercator cannot enable this option for you. Other agent clients are not yet supported by this setup guide.
No terminal, local server or OpenAI API key is needed for this hosted ChatGPT connection. Read OpenAI’s connection instructions.
Your account stays in your control
Your account page lets you disconnect agents, withdraw listings or delete your data. Disconnecting keeps your records; withdrawal removes a listing from discovery. Read how sharing and retention work, or get help.
